Tour Details

It is said that “real” India exists in her villages. Urban India, although large and constantly growing, represents only a small portion of this vast nation. In Kerala, rural and urban exist so close together that it is hard to say where one ends and the other begins. Your tour today takes you to one of Kerala’s rural villages, Vaikom. Located in the district of Kottayam, it is one of the oldest villages in Kerala and an excellent representation of rural life in the region. During your visit, walk through the community and see what life is like here on a typical day. See homes, interact with local people and see the various activities by which they earn their livelihood. Observe ladies weaving coir ropes out of coconut husks, potters at work and straw mats being woven out of pineapple leaves. You will also visit the local market, temple and a school to delve deeper into what life here is all about.
